The Graduate Program in Energy Engineering was created in 1999 to meet societal demand for a comprehensive course, with focus on the echnical aspects related to energy while also considering its surrounding constraints, in order to achieve feasible solutions.
This objective was fulfilled by the union of specialized groups in different energy areas: the Energy Studies Group (GEE), active in the fields of energy planning, energy laws and the rational use of energy; the Energy Group (GEN), which studies hydroelectric energy generation and the rational use of water; the Excellence Group in Thermal Power and Distributed Generation (NEST), specialized in the areas of Thermal Power generation, biomass and solar energy, bio-fuel sustainability and related aspects;the Study Group in Environmental Science (GECA) that in addition to other themes, deals with the impacts of the generation and use of energy over the environment.
