Green Hydrogen Center – CH2V

Green Hydrogen Center – Green Hydrogen, produced from renewable energy resources, is one of the sustainable energy vectors, relevant for our transition to a carbon neutral world.

In the context of the current transition towards the sustainability of global energy systems and the search to expand the decarbonization of emissions associated with energy production, green hydrogen has stood out as an energy vector and industrial input of great interest.

In this sense, the Green Hydrogen Center (CH2V) will have an area of approximately 3,000 m of the headquarters campus, where an electrolysis plant, storage tanks, compressors and a supply system for hydrogen-powered vehicles will be installed. The space will also have a building with an area of approximately 800 m² to develop research activities related to green hydrogen.

Thus, CH2V constitutes the University’s most significant and comprehensive initiative in the field of hydrogen production and use, allowing the development of energy themes, especially those most relevant to Brazilian conditions, in addition to contributing to the sustainable development of a green hydrogen market in the Brazil.

The Brazil-Germany Cooperation for sustainable development has been working for decades in the areas of sustainable energy and energy efficiency, encouraging the expansion of the supply of renewable energy. In this context, the H2Brasil project emerged in 2021, created by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH with the aim of supporting the improvement of the expansion of the green hydrogen (H2V) market in the country as a fundamental part in reducing emissions of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and to contribute to the decarbonization of the Brazilian economy.

In partnership with the MME, the H2Brasil project will carry out several actions, such as:

  • Preparation of energy planning scenarios
  • Identification of needs in the current regulatory framework
  • Analysis of the implementation of an H2V certification system in the country
  • Dissemination of studies, actions and campaigns on the importance of H2V production in Brazil
  • Promotion of exchanges of knowledge and experiences with influencers, opinion leaders and journalists
  • Development of educational content
  • Implementation of laboratories with infrastructure for learning and professional training actions in H2V technologies through training of multipliers – with a gender inclusion perspective
  • Development of innovative technologies, ideas and projects for the production of H2V and its PtX derivatives
  • Support for Brazilian universities through the installation of laboratories and exchanges with research institutions and German universities
  • Support for improving the economic viability of the industrial application of green hydrogen (H2V) in Brazil through the development of financing instruments to leverage the Brazilian H2V market and the implementation of a cluster of applications for pilot projects along the supply chain H2/PtX value.

H2Brasil also has the following implementing partners:

  • Energy Research Company (EPE)
  • National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL)
  • National Electric System Operator (ONS)
  • National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP)
  • National Industrial Learning Service (SENAI)
  • Companies, Brazilian and German universities, private companies
  • Brazil-Germany Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK).
