Brazilian Pre-Salt Technology Center – CTPB
Situated in the expansion area of Unifei, the CTPB boasts facilities equipped with cutting-edge technologies for developing and testing equipment used in oil production under the typical conditions of the Brazilian pre-salt layer. These conditions involve pressures that can reach up to 200 times atmospheric pressure, highly saline water, and elevated CO2 levels of up to 80% v/v.
The CTPB features state-of-the-art technology for emulsion characterization, enabling the measurement of key properties such as viscosity, density, interfacial tension, composition, and the dimensions of dispersed phase droplets, both in liquid and gas phases.
With the capability to handle up to 80 m³/h of fluids like water and oil, and 90 m³/h of gases, the test bench allows for replicating reservoir production conditions across all stages of its lifecycle.
The primary objective of the complex is to provide an experimental environment capable of developing and qualifying compact, efficient, robust, and cost-effective fluid processing technologies. Additionally, it aims to tackle challenges related to multiphase flow, flow assurance, and energy recovery.
The facilities at CTPB can also be utilized to support development and training in the fields of CCUS (Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage) and CO2-EOR (CO2-Enhanced Oil Recovery). The focus is on creating efficient, compact, and cost-effective technologies to ensure the sustainable reduction of carbon emissions.
